Recently I stumble in a situation where NewRelic would email me that my server is not answering and the CPU is over 80% and I wasn't able to see who is runnig an attack or what is happening in the logs. So, luckly I am using linux I could type the following command in the terminal:
tail -f /var/log/messages
Which would give me:
If you want to watch specific files you will have to open new sessions each time, however, if you would like to watch the entire folder of logs, then you can type:
tail -f /var/log/*
When a file will change in any folders you are having in the log folder, the console will display like it like this:
Of course, this is not the only option you can use. There are a few more options like less or watch .
